Man, comic classes as a child would have been awesome. Your students are extra lucky to get such awesome handouts. I can suppose I can settle for mooching off of graphic novels class in college, but it's just not the same.
...Eating at a funky, fabulous, time to empty all of my piggybanks restaurant has just gone of the list of things to do at some point in my life list.

Nice teaching handouts! ... although I think it's pretty unfair(because I am jealous oh course) that they get to take a comics class in elementary school.. To think I could've been making jam comics in elementary school..
Wow, that post totally made my day! Thanks for all the great reading material! :-D
Everything is fantastic in its own way; I wish you'd done workshops in my school when I was a kid! And the Alinea comic, brilliant. You'd be a fun person to go to a restaurant with; Stuart is nice about me drawing all the food I'm eating and writing recipe notes, but I think it weirds him out a little bit. ;-)
I do not want to sound like an unadventurous cynic, but I would rather eat a huge bowl of meat stew and dumplings than some weird shit served on a smoky pillow.
Which I bet they charge like a million bucks for.
Bah humbug.
Yeay! you added me back!! :)
Just wanna say your work is fantastic and good luck for tomorrow! (probably today!) lol hope all goes well!
I am competely intrigued by that grape juice in a ball thing. Probably because it's the only thing I wouldn't be scared to try haha. But wow, that stuff looks awesome!
Hi, I'm one of the new people. :) *waves*
That restaurant is ten kinds of crazy. I need to save up enough money to go there sometime, just seeing the pillow of smoke would make it worth it!
I'll probably print out the handouts, translate them to Norwegian and give them to my little sister, because they are amazing! I just spent 20 minutes trying to draw the different emotions and I can't even draw. :)
Oooooooooh your workshop handouts are so good
hi,
found you through Lj's main page, your comics are amazing! I draw myself, but nowhere as dedicated as you are to the form. would it be alright if i friended you? i would love to continue seeing your work. :)
xoxo
Similarly, I've eaten at Heston Blumenthal’s restaurant, The Fat Duck. The menu is based on molecular gastronomy. It cost a fortune but was by far the best meal I've ever eaten. All kinds of crazy dishes; snail porridge, egg and bacon ice cream etc… Once in a life time stuff.
For the record, I love the Bad Potato.
My mouth watered while reading that. :D
I am a culinary student at The Art Institute of Colorado, and in a couple quarters, that is exactly the kind of stuff my favourite chef is going to teach us to do! For our last open house he made these raw "eggs" that were actually mango and coconut, gelatin "mimosas" with orange puree and homemade pop rocks that tasted like champagne, and an "eggs Benedict" that was the same size as 15 dimes stacked together...really amazing stuff...he even teaches how to make fruit caviar! And now I am jealous, I really want to visit this restaurant! Great work! I love it!
OMG- look at all of this. I am grateful for the internet today. You make me glad I turned on the computer. :D
super cute comics demo. You're a natural!

For those of us who can't afford Chez Panisse, there's Cafe Fanny . I ate there on a trip to Berkeley this summer... delicious Cafe au Lait and Croque Monsieur... BTW, I'm a new reader of your journal.
i laughed so much at your course syllabus (bed head? the grump? genius!) that the girl whose desk is outside my office came in to ask me what the hell was going on.
Amazingtastic post as usual. As an aspiring artist, you're more than an inspiration! Thanks so much!
I am in awe of your drawing abilities. Wish I had your skills, these drawings are amazing.
I loved the descriptions of the food! So weird and wonderful!
Just an FYI you're gonna get a lot of "But mine doesn't look like yours." You're gonna spend a lot of your time telling them "Yours isn't supposed to look like mine. It's supposed to be yours." I really like the handouts you made! They look really nice and well thought out.
Hi Lucy! I absolutely adore your artwork. I found your journal through Spotlight, and now I'm in love. I'm going to friend request you, so I can keep up to date with your new works, if that's ok. :)
Wow, thanks for such a comic-packed post.
I relate to your adventurous food fancy.
Your journal is so awesome! Friending you now... :D
Wow. I wish my art classes were fun right now, I'm currently suffering loads of work from my majors. Haha.
I wanna make a comic like that. Might try it tonight. :D |
