I wish I could claim "always being early" as a character flaw. I'm a procrastinator to the bitter end. D:
Oh man, it's actually worse than it seems. I'm always waiting around at restaurants and movie theaters, and I spent way more time worrying about deadlines, having begun them too early to really make sense. But I still manage to procrastinate for certain things. It's better, I think.
Yeah... all my music is on it's own hard drive, although I use it a lot. I do worry that it's going to go POOF one of these days but alas, my computer can't hold it all. Darn dinosaur computer.
My computer is a dinosaur, too! That's why all my music was on the external hard drive. One day the drive just CEASED TO WORK. Apparently it happens not infrequently, and when it does, it can cost around a thousand to then thousand dollars to do data recovery. It was not pleasant to learn all this. BUT I actually was converted to DIE HARD Itunes fan, due to this whole debacle, as I wrote them to explain what had happened, and they LET ME REDOWNLOAD ALMOST ALL MY ITUNES STUFF. So be CAREFUL-- maybe get another hard drive to back up your hard drive. Or just rely on the kindness of major corporations, like I did.
Man, that painting is raaaaaaaad
I am NOT in upstate new york right now (for once!!!), a fact about which I must gloat. Gloatgloatgloat.
Vera! Where are you? I wanna make YOU a painting. I love my manamaid painting so so sooo much.
The Side B anthology sounds cool. I wish I had found out about the chance to submit something a bit sooner.
I love that painting (although I find this horse with pig feet rather disturbing) !
I love those delicate little hooves. Pig feet are so cool.
It's insane how much depth the color adds to that painting :0 I need to start watercoloring again
I just sorta got back into it recently, and I'm discovering new ways to do it that are really helping me out with depth and color sorting. I think my break from painting (during which I colored on the computer) really helped my painting, actually! You should definitely paint more-- I love seeing paintings by other artists.
I actually found this LJ through Erika's LJ. =) Glad I did. Awesome work you did of/for them!
Thanks! She's such a fine lady.
Yes! I am glad we are in the same book. Your entry looks amazing, just off the first page alone.
Awesome! I can't wait to see this book-- it's gonna be so gooood.
Люси! Поздравляю вас с новым годом! Желаю удачи во всём!!! (Россия. Москва)
Спасибо! С новым годом к вам, слишком. Я имел потеху переводя ваше сообщение.
When work deadlines are imminent, who's worried about fashion sense...??
Clearly not me. But I do occasionally realize what a fashion plate I've become. Usually when the mailman is startled by the sight of me at the door.
HAHAHAHA!!! That last drawing really had me busting a gut!And the photo is priceless. :D Can't wait to see you in Side B, dear! Have a Happy New Year!!!
Where's your entry? What's it about? This book is going to be great, I think! Happy new year to you and the fam!

I'm still a music-o-phile and overly attached to certain sounds though. XP not really in a check me out way, though

Haha, I'm still loyal to old music loves, but I miss the firey passion I had for them, before. Oh well. I'm old and scroogey now.
Anyone who'd criticize someone for wearing a hoboesque amount of layers in December in upstate New York has never been to upstate New York in December. :)
For. Real. This outfit lets me go from the house to the barn and back again without needing much in the way of outerwear. And I've been working in the basement, so it's crazy cold down there. It would be hilarious if everyone in this siberian climate wore their winter-indoor clothes out to parties. I would love that.
I am constantly amazed by your prolificacy.
Thanks, Chris! Did you do something for Side B? I'm loving the sketches you've been doing. Very cool.
Oh my goodness, how much do I love the first comic? I totally and completely identify with it. At 25, I feel entirely disconnected with music and I hate it! I don't have the passion I once had and I have no idea how to get it back. I miss loving music!
Me too. Actually, the most embarrassing part of all this is that I've done a 180 from when I was younger and music had to identify me as an artist or an individual. These days I listen to what's on the radio, so I become fond of top 10 songs that me and a million 13 year olds like.

We should talk! I've been experimenting with a few new techniques that I'm really liking these days. But the lightbox is ESSENTIAL to my painting process, lately. That way I can do my pencils on a seperate sheet, transfer it to another, nicer paper in permanent ink (I use the pens I also use to make my comics; Faber Castel PITT pen, in Superfine), then I do a light peachy wash over the whole thing, and then I paint that when it dries. It's worked quite a bit for me, and I've always been really down on my watercoloring. I love the painting you did of me and John, though. Can I make you a painting and we can do an original trade?
Oh, can I ask you why you don't recommend putting music on an external hard drive?
I was thinking about doing this but now you have me alarmed!
Apparently, external hard drives are really vulnerable to crashes. It's a huge pain the butt. I was advised to get TWO external hard drives, one to store my music and one to back it up. It's expensive, but it's less expensive than having to buy all that music again.
Funny how I was just thinking that about music. Synchronicity.
Happy New Year to you, and thanks for the fantastic art and inspiration.
You're welcome! Happy new year to you, too. It's weird how thoughts pervade, huh? This didn't happen too long ago, and ever since I've been hearing similar tales of woe. The sweeping malaise for music seems to be epidemic. Sigh.
That is a pretty crazy work uniform you got there! It looks really comfy, though - good luck finishing and happy new year (=
Thanks! I consider myself the fashion plate of the woods, where my mom lives. Happy new year to you, too!
Did Rachel get back to you already?? I haven't heard anything yet... *nailbiter*

Yeah, she wrote back to confirm she'd gotten my submission, but I think she's not really doing the deciding yet. I wouldn't worry about a slow email response, she's pretty swamped with late entries and new submissions, but if you're still concerned then drop her a line! PS: I went with some friends to the Poughkeepsie Galleria today-- boy that place has totally changed! And yet... it's still the same. At least the H&M looked the same from the outside (we were there after mall hours, just to see a movie). It bought back lots of fond pretzel-scented memories of skipping out on the second half of class after lunch, to try on the weirdest stuff we could find at H&M, and then to pick through the buttons at Hot Topic.

But first... Yes. WHY does that happen, the loss of identification / self-determination, through music? I remember looking around and noticing that I missed it.
And second: FRENCH MILK, my Christmas present to myself, is waiting till these two weeks on call are over. I'm looking forward to it!
Anyhow, in case you or someone in the generation one back is interested in shirttail-relative genealogy, this is the man to reach. He's a good sort and he has a general idea about how to track us all from twig to tree.
From: RONALD NICELY [nicelyguy@msn.com] Sent: 31 December 2008 01:33 To: Ron Nicely Subject: Mary Reed
About 4 years ago I asked many of you to send a card to Mary Reed who had turned 101 years old. She was thrilled with the cards and gifts that came from all around the world. I am sorry to inform you today that Mary Reed passed away on December 29th 2008 after suffering a stroke. I attended her 105th birthday on June 20th 2008, along with several other relatives. She was still in relatively good health except for her hearing and eye sight. She was a pleasure to talk with and she really enjoyed the people who came to visit her. Mary was a 4 Great Granddaughter of Antonius Kristopher Knussli who was the first of our ancestors to move to America and who was the ancestor of the Nussli family in the US. Mary was a 3 Great Granddaughter of Adam Nicely who moved to the Ligonier, PA area in 1761. Adam lived to be 96 years of age and his wife Elizabeth Eichert Nicely lived to the age of 94. Mary must have had some of their genes to make it to 105. As far as I know this is the oldest age a Nusli descendant has reached. If anyone has information on someone who lived longer please let me know. Her funeral will be on Friday morning. It will be private and only several members of the family will be there. Thanks and Regards Ron Nicely
I'm glad you posted this Lucy, I didn't know about this anthology. I personally recommend the Tintin do and what it can do for your life.

Hi Lucy, Firstly, let me just say how much I love this site. Your comics have inspired me to start sketching again, and I am now a proud doodler of things a half-step up from stick figures. :)
I was wondering if you could tell me what kind of pens you use for inking. I'm new to all this, and right now I have a generous collection of colored pencils and a fine-tip Sharpie, but I'd like to see what I could do with fancier tools.
Also, if you do decide to cut your own hair, be sure not to use the miniature scissors in the left drawer of the bathroom, because they could be the ones your mom uses for trimming the hair around your dog's butt.
Just saying.

Hi! So today I decided to check once more if my local mega-bookstore had French Milk & tadaaaa!! They did & it totally was, & is, mine. I just wanted to let you know that I love it. As I read it I realized that--hey, fun!--I was in Paris at the same time as you. Oh, that sounds a lot creepier written out...Moving on (ha!), I appreciated that while reading your book your memories made me remember MY memories. Isn't it weird how you can forget what you have experienced? Oh yeah, I did find out that Saddam Hussein was executed while I was in Paris. Oh yeah, it did rain a lot--though at the same time, not really. Anyway, I just wanted to say hi, tell you that your book is great & thank you for helping me remember more about Paris...& for making my itch to go back SO MUCH WORSE! :) |
