Is Nelly doing a Birthright thing? I have a friend there right now doing that and I'm worried too--but it turns out I can still text her and make sure she's alive.
Yeah! Nelly just got there, so she doesn't have her phone set up yet. That birthright thing is cool, but it looks like it won't go on much longer now that the economy may have take it out, so it's good that people are going while they still can. It doesn't stop me from being nervous about the whole situation, though. It would be so nice to visit the Middle East, but I'd rather steer clear of regions where students are regularly exploded.
Oh man, our friends might be on the same trip, because she just got there too. Is it the slightly more liberal one?
And my friend has a Blackberry, which I guess is magic and works everywhere.
Yea, I am glad things are cooling down. I just had another friend spend New Years in Tel Aviv and she said it was fine, but Israelis were sort of jerks about her living in Jordan.
I recommend the Middle East. I went to Egypt last summer and totally think everyone should spend some time in the Sinai Peninsula--where we were it was really beautiful and really empty of tourists. Perfect.
Sorry, this is a super long comment, probably because I am sleepy.
Birthright is a super careful organization, they take tons of safety measures, including having guards with each group. Of course, you never are 100% safe anywhere in the world, but really they don't go near the dangerous areas. I felt safe the entire time I was there. They have thousands of kids there in many different groups and I'm sure they've taken extra measures during this current terribleness. (trying to sound reassuring here!) Agree on the Middle East as a whole. I loved Sinai and Egypt is amazing and intense. So beautiful, that part of the world. Sorry to go on!
Oh my goodness, those photos are soooo cute!
Thanks! I love kid photos of people I know as adults. I look so much the same, but way less cute. It's hilarious!
Hmmm, I dunno, you're still hella cute. ;^)
1. My birthday is coming up.
BUT THAT'S A REASON TO BE EXCITED! \:D/ Shit, any reason to have cake is excitement worthy.
a. I love your icon. and b. I used to LOVE my birthday, but it's been accompanied by a cloud of malaise in recent years. Maybe this year will be different, but I doubt it-- 24 is a scaaary age. It's like, practially grown-up.
But yes, there will likely be some sort of cake thing. Hopefully.
We're good people in Vancouver!
Ryan! You! Your hourlies are so gooood. They are making me illll that I'm not participating in the month of hourlies toooo. Will you be in Vancouver in the next few weekends?
I will indeed, except for some time mid-February when I'll be in Seattle for a school thingy. I would certainly enjoy shakin' your hand and saying hello if you're in town!
Also it is not too late to do hourlies! It is never too late.
I love that town! I'd really like to hang out with people there, when I go. The last time I went, I just gazed longingly towards all the great people on the streets, and then ate a million crepes.
There are a ton of crepes here.
It's true, millions of crepes. When will you be in town? I'm sure some sorta drink & draw could be arranged :D
I hope you feel better soon. Happy birthday!
Thanks! I feel fine. My miserable things and excited things balance out, so mostly I just feel kinda chubby after I ate a million sushis tonight. And for once, I'm not sick! Hurray!
The bottom photo put a smile on my curmudgeonly old face.
I'm likewise a little alarumed by all the rumblings about the Imminent Demise of Livejournal. Livejournal and I just celebrated our fifth anniversary, damnit!
I daresay all the lj-archive tools are getting quite a workout right now. Which is something I keep telling myself I should do.
Eventually.
One of these days.
Oh man, me too. That would take SOOO LONG. But we should probably do it. SIGH.
So... so your not coming to Portland? =( booooo! Vermont is such a lovley place tho!
Not sure if you caught my reply to you in my LJ, but Erika and I are planning to come out to Chicago in March (or any time really), and we're wondering if you had any dates that would be a good time for us to book our flights for so that we can hang out with you.
Come come come to Chicago! Anytime, really, though I should probably ask John when he's not going to be in Vancouver, so he can be sure to be around, too. We'll work it out! I can't wait to see you guys! And of course I'm coming to Portland! I'm coming in April, for Stumptown. That's the plan, so far. John and I are really excited to come out there!
Wonderful!!! Man you kidding? We're the ones who are dead excited to see you guys!
It would be great if you ask Jon for when hes around in March, and drop us those dates (e-mail either Erika or me), and we'll book something and come see you two.
Also, can't wait for stumptown it should be aces =D
Exciting times!
Ah, I'm flying home to Vancouver in a week to get in some serious skiing - cannot wait!
Have you ever been to The Comic Shop on West Fourth? I used to go there all the time for my Archies when I was wee. If you go, walk two doors up the hill and go to Sophie's Cosmic Cafe for breakfast. Dee-licious!
Have an awesome time...
I'm totally with you on the whole "I wasted a month of gym membership?!?" But life's crazy, huh?
for me it was sickforliketwomonths/Thanksgiving/Christmas/Mom'ssurgery/NewYears/ AHHHHH
I'm pretty much running the house because my older sister and dad work so I'm home running up and down the stairs for my mom (she had surgery last week) with meds, food, etc and then keeping the house clean. I'M POOPED
I'm hoping to get back to it soon but until then I'm watching what I eat.
Hope you are able to get back to it soon :]
The weather is miserable right now. D= Hopefully it'll be better by the time you arrive, right now it's frozen snow block draing. We suck with snow. XD
My boyfriend would like to tell your boyfriend to stop being so cute because it's giving boyfriends a bad name. :)
I live in Vancouver! If there is to be some sort of drink and draw, I would love to attend. I love your comics and think it would be awesome to meet you.
i read in your vancouver food report you didn't think much of west...but you should consider going back just for cocktails. try to go when either colin or david is on duty.
Ooh! I'm a Vancouverite or thereabouts! I am usually easily persuaded to attend large groupings of comickers!
Whoah. That second expression is pretty intense.
I LOVE BOTH THOSE FACIAL EXPRESSIONS SO MUCH.
I'd not heard of LiveJournal danger - oh no :( I hope it isn't so.
How do you stay motivated and productive rather than a distracted procrastinator (me)?
Happy New Year :)
I hope you're not averse to being friended by people you don't know; I've just been following your art for some time now and friended you today because wanted to see you on my flist in case you updated or posted more drawings or comics or what have you. :) If you've got time to answer a question, can you tell me if those pictures are edited or not? Because the colors in both are very brilliant and beautiful, just wondering what camera they might have been taken with to make them so nice.
Happy new year and happy birthday to you! It's been great following your journal this year, you and nedroidcomics have been posting my favourite strips. Good luck with all your projects this year! Edited at 2009-01-07 09:39 am (UTC)
It's actually amazing how little you've changed. Especially the last picture, you look exactly the same!
Do you mean Vancouver in Canada or the Other Vancouver in Washington State? I live in the better, Canadian one . . . . which is presently a slushy disaster.
Disgusting blue Liquor? You must have meant Hipnotiq. Actually it's one of my favorites, but absolutely awful to puke up. And to be honest I've only ever puked when I had hipnotiq.
And hooray for people who can ski! Vancouver should be fun.
happy birthday, i missed you!
God, I love kid pictures...how little you've changed!!?!?! Here you go:
I love those pictures! So cute!
I like to look at people's pictures as kids, they look the same but uglier when they grow up, haha. (And by 'they' I mean 'me' as well, of course).

Hey Cutie! I'm glad to hear that you're feeling better. Love those photos! I just wanted you to know that Nelly's Israel group updates us daily and that, so far, except for a minor itinerary adjustment, they haven't really been bothered by rockets and bombs (yikes). We've also talked to her a few times, and, while I don't think this will rival, say, your European tour, she's doing fine. Happy Birthday! And Happy New Year to you and family!

After subscribing to your journal when livejournal featured it, i was pleasantly surprised and delighted to walk into a weird book/stationary store and see French Milk sitting there! Thought you might like to know that even someone in Australia has bought your book.
Also - why does my copy have no dot on the 'i' in milk or Knisley? I thought that only happened in the first run you published yourself. Let me know if I'm sitting on a collector's item...
